Hard disk management on new installation

Hello everyone,

today for the first time I installed Proxmox on the server “ProLiant DL360 Gen9”. All the Proxmox installations I have done so far were on home PCs.

Everything went well though I'm still left with doubts about disk partitioning.
As you can see from the picture, in the 20 Gb “sda” disk I installed Proxmox.
Instead “sdb” is a raid of 8 disks (I have to figure out if the raid is already configured, I think so because before on the server there was ESXi).

Currently the server has:
  • one 8.94 Gb “local” disk.
  • one 7.04 Gb “local-lvm” disk.

I would like to remove these two volumes and extend the system partition and create these two volumes again within “sdb”.

I tried in do you install Proxmox to partition the disks but the setup only gave me the option to choose which disk to use and I chose the first 20 Gb one.

How do you recommend that I proceed?

Thank you all for the help!

If you select sdb1 you can use the Wipe Disk button to erase its contents.

If you're using hardware RAID, don't use ZFS, it's not compatible.

If RAID wasn't already configured you would probably see the 8 individual drives.

Thanks for the reply, I agree with you. Since I see "sdb" logical volume I suppose the RAID is managed by the HW.

Is it possible to delete the existing "local" and "local-lvm" from "sda"?

I'd found a few threads on that when I was testing. These might help? Or similar searches.

Essentially, delete the partition and make root bigger.

Or you can reinstall and use ext4 or something instead of LVM. By default Proxmox assumes you will be storing VMs on the (only) disk.

I removed the local volume following this post.

How I can create a new storage for the "Image" and one for the VM and LXC Data?

Thanks

I think it is fine.

On the storage, I can only store "Disk Image and Cointainer".

I can I store backups, ISO and Template on this volume?

Thank you in advance for your support.
