Hello,

i've got pve v. 3.4-1 on a hp dl380 g9. Everything is fine, but last Thursday i shut down the host due to high temps. It's not a productive system yet. When i turned the server online again, the harddisk for one machine was missing. Fortunately, i had a backup. Can anybody tell me the location of the logfile where i can see what happened to the old harddisk?

Thanks in advance.

Julian

Hi,
/var/log/*

If I'm honest , i would have expected a little bit more support from a proxmox staff member. Can you tell me if there are special logs where i could find events like this? A harddisk does not disapppear so easily.

not sure what you expect, the answer was exactly to the point.

check your logs instead of complaining here.

Hi,
an harddisk can disappear (without log) easy, if you delete the file.

If the vm-hdd is on local filesystem and the VM is running you can easily delete the hdd-file - the file isn't visible on the filesystem but still in use.
After stopping the VM (reboot) the file is gone. Without any log, but not automaticly, only with wrong user commands!!

if i would know which log.. a little bit more precision about this, is what i expect.

Hi,
/var/log/*

This is something everybody should know, before every installation of any software.

The answer of udo is at least a bit helpful, though i did not delete my hdd. Why should i do this with a vm i still need?

Although i had the backup, i can't get my vm to work again. The Server OS directly boots in the automatic systemrepair mode.
If this would be a server which is not for testing.. Then good night.

yes, and we know it and we really suggest that everybody who install servers should know it. if YOU do know the basics, teach yourself but don´t blame others for your missing knowledge.

Hi,
something really weird happened, because vm disks don't disappear in this way, usually.
probably, the vm disk storage is involved. You didn't post much detail...
Also, as usual, pve packages versions (use "#pveversion -v") could help to spot something...
