Guest Agent not running

Hello all

I'm new to proxmox. I have been playing with it for a about a year on and off on old hardware. Now that i have all my server hardware has been defined and implemented. I am ready to go live with my new home environment. I'm running proxmox 8.

I created vm's for opnsense. home assistant and truenas. Maybe i will add a window 10 or 11 vm at a later date

I read this thread and followed the links mentioned.

Of the 3 vm's only home assistant summary provides me with an iP address of the Home assistant vm.

For truenas and opnsense i have guest agent not running and in both cases under option i see that the qemu is enabled and type virtio.

As suggested I tried to perform apt-get install qemu-guest-agent in the pve sell and it did install however i still get the same scenarios.

What is my solution I would like to go live with my lab by next friday

Thank you

You should probably create a new post for this since this one talks about Windows 10.
Proxmox warned me for Windows to install the qemu agent BEFORE setting the "QEMU agent" enabled flag
Which is also the reason for why I had the VirtIO drivers already installed, then installed the qemu agent, set the flag and then wondered why it's not working.
For Windows 10 I can confirm that you have to reinstall the VirtIO Serial drivers PCI\VEN_1AF4&DEV_1003&CC_0780 again after enabling the "QEMU agent" to make it work

Thank you for your reply, I will create a new post to discuss in particular why i do not see in the summary of the truenas and opnsense vm their respective IP

Hello all

Just to let everyone know that after the promox update to 8.1.3 i do get the the ip for truenas (which i was not before this)

thank you all for the help

The linked guide: https://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Qemu-guest-agent

Is no longer working for a fresh Windows 10 Pro ISO from Microsoft. The device mentioned in the Device Manager is nowhere to be found.
I tried pretty much every bit of advice mentioned in this thread and nothing could get the agent to work in the Proxmox status screen where it should be showing the VM guest IP.
The guest agent installs and uninstalls fine, it shows in the Device Manager inside the VM fine, but the Get-Service QEMU-GA command never finds the service. I tried the specific version mentioned on page 1 and same issue, the install looks perfect buy Proxmox ignores it even after a full stop and start of the VM.

Works easily enough in Linux guests though.
