Hi frankmanzhu, I was using version 6.2 of the kernel, i.e. the default stable version delivered with pve version 8.0.

Unfortunately, I also encountered the same problem. Do you have a solution? There is no problem with the direct passthrough GPU under Windows, but you will encounter the same error under Mac
 
As I re-read from this post, the author didn’t seem to get the passthrough working at all.

It requires display to set to VMware display?
Guys, the only perfect working solution is what I described above. Use kernel 5.15, all other kernel will have some weird issues. GPU passthrough shouldn’t be an issue, T919 Bluetooth passthrough requires more effort.

1. Boot into macOS and installation. (With VMware display)
2. Modify plist to set the macOS to be Mac Pro. (Not default iMac. Important!) Set display = none and do the passthrough gpu and set boot parameters. Pass through usb devices
3. Once you got that working, next is to pass through pcie bus for Bluetooth and wifi for airdrop and continuity camera etc. This requires 5.15 kernel.

I believe pcie and bt/wifi passthrough only works on kernel 5.15 (which is part of pve7) I started with pve7 and now upgraded to 8.

I just went through this --

You want to set your MacPro and SMBIOS and Serials before you install. It just caused me too many headaches trying to chase the bugs.

I ended up using the OSX-PROXMOX scripts and it worked almost out of the box. The GPU passthru gave me headaches, until I scrolled down on their github page and read their guide for fixing passthru GPUs. Haha. Now it's working: GPU, sound, USB (passed thru), and network (vmnet). I'm debating if I want to go down the rabbit hole of patching for the BCM WiFi card - I can probably live without it :)
