I'm using a fresh install of proxmox2 (from ovh), upgraded to latest version.
When using CreateVM / CreateCT the "node" drop down list has one entry with no name, and when selected the dropdown stays empty with an error : "Node seems to be offline! Field is required":

What has gone wrong and what to do to get it right ?

check /etc/hosts (post it here).

as OVH does a custom install, you should ask also there.

What should be in this drop down ?

# Do not remove the following line, or various programs
# that require network functionality will fail.
127.0.0.1 localhost.localdomain localhost
46.xxx.xxx.xxx ns22xxxx.ovh.net ns22xxxx

# The following lines are desirable for IPv6 capable hosts
#(added automatically by netbase upgrade)
