firmware problem

hi,
i installed squeeze with bnx2 firmware.
then i installed the pve kernel.
after the reboot i had no network.
i tried to install the pve-firmware package instead but did not work.
i installed the firmware from the sqeeze backport, this finally worked, until i wanted to install pve because this depends on pve-firmware.

i spent an hour now installing and removing packages and now i have a totally messed up system.

i'll reinstall squeeze but i need exact instructions how to install the firmware correctly.

it just doesn't load the driver if i boot to pve kernel.
when i reboot to squeeze everything works.

i just wanted to know what is the "official" way to install the correct firmware that works for sure?

to say the truth, to install my system i used an unofficial iso including firmware from here:
http://cdimage.debian.org/cdimage/unofficial/non-free/cd-including-firmware/6.0.3/amd64/iso-cd/
can this be a problem?

the official way is using the ISO installer (1.x)
starting with 2.0, we also support the install on top of squeeze, see http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Install_Proxmox_VE_on_Debian_Squeeze

So it is a driver problem (card not detected?), not a firmware problem?

i reinstalled the system and it works now.
the trick was that i installed pve-firmware before anything else:

aptitude remove firmware-bnx2
aptitude install pve-firmware
aptitude install pve-kernel-2.6.32-6-pve

reboot
