Hey everyone,

We have a 10G Internet connection but we are not even reaching 1GB Internet Speed to the firewall installed on proxmox.
We have used the Intel1000 as nwetowrk card.

Is it possible to get the full Internect connection speed to the firewall?

As stated use VirtIO (as the name suggest e1000 is limited to 1g max) and consider setting Multiqueu to however many cores you have given this VM.

I switched to VirtIO and I am getting only 266+
I again switched back to E1000 and I am getting 1100+ ... its so strange

How much should be the Multiqueu when the VM has 2 cores?

We have 2 Firewalls... both are configured exactly the same
On the first Firewall we are getting 300+ and other one with 1100+
How is that possible?

To ensure that you can achieve the full 10G internet connection speed to your firewall, it is important to consider several factors:

  1. Network Card: The Intel1000 network card you mentioned is a Gigabit Ethernet card, capable of speeds up to 1Gbps. In order to take full advantage of your 10G internet connection, you would need a network card that supports 10Gbps speeds, such as a 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) card.
  2. Firewall Hardware: The hardware specifications of your firewall device also play a crucial role. Ensure that the hardware is capable of handling 10Gbps traffic and has sufficient processing power to perform the necessary network functions at that speed.
  3. Proxmox Configuration: Check the Proxmox network configuration to ensure that it supports 10Gbps speeds. This includes verifying the network interface settings and any network bridging or virtual networking configurations.
  4. Cable and Infrastructure: To achieve 10Gbps speeds, you will need appropriate cabling and infrastructure that can support such high speeds, such as Cat6a or Cat7 Ethernet cables. Verify that your cabling and networking infrastructure are compatible with 10Gbps speeds.
  5. Network Switch: Confirm that your network switch supports 10Gbps connectivity and has sufficient bandwidth and port capacity to handle the increased traffic.
By addressing these factors, you can increase the likelihood of achieving the full 10G internet connection speed to your firewall. Consulting with network specialists or IT professionals experienced in high-speed networking can provide further assistance in optimizing your network setup.
