Hey,

after doing my first backups I was a bit confused because it always showed e.g. 10GB wuhci is the VM image size of the affected machine. But according to logs he only transferred some 200 MB ... so it would be awesome to see this as an extra column in the PBS datastorage overview

Aahhh, i See ... interesting challenge :)
In fact the only option is to get these details one backup creation/storage on the PBS seide and then persist it so that you do not need to grab from scratch - I also understand that the value will change on pruning probably, but I think the info was more on space usage and to "see" if incremental approach works for a particular VM or such

you can already check this in the client logs - it gives you the stats compared to the previous backup. deduplication might be even better than that (e.g. because a chunk is now the same AGAIN as it was in even older backups, or because it deduplicates against another backup group). the complete picture is very expensive to keep up-to-date especially when you think of a busy backup server with lots of concurrent backups/pruning/..., so we will likely use some in-between approach of updating what we get for free when garbage collecting (exact, but stale), and estimating based on what the client knows about each backup (more current, but just an estimation).
