Feature Request: alter static ip on cloning templates

I've setup a few templates and upon cloning there is no option to assign a new static IP address. Adding this feature in the clone window would be helpful. This way I can assign IP addresses as I'm cloning based on requirements and avoid network issues, rather than booting into a network with an assigned address that will cause collisions.

Before anyone suggests: no, DHCP is not a viable option either. There be dragons.

Its software so anything is possible. However there are already several methods of achieving your goal without tight integration into Proxmox.

For example, you can use cloud-init. A simple script could clone the template, generate appropriate cloud-init which will update the new VM on startup.
You can also wrap the template with guest-fish or similar qemu image editing tools, that would update your network config file.

The avenues are there. My guess is that if you chose to wait for a one-click GUI integration - it will take a long while. Start with opening a well defined feature request. Keep in mind that a feature like this should probably cover all OS variants, including Windows.

I discovered that I can actually alter a container's ip through the gui, prior booting, which is cool.

Sure, I'll have to learn more about cloud-init and guest-fish. Seems the tools exist and I just need to discover them for myself and use them. Thanks for the tip!
