we've got HPE StoreEver MSL2024 connected to PBS (Backup Server 2.1-1) via FC
we've also got a bunch of tapes int the library, one of them is cleaning!

So when i try to make "label all unlabeled tapes" with a


proxmox-tape barcode-label --pool 111
i've got an error

does the cleaning tape have the correct barcode attached ? (i.e. one with CLN at the beginning?)

i don't think you can label cleaning tapes as they are not meant to be normally written to?

No my tape has name S60001CU and it's too far from me to change it's barcode.
Btw - i excluded this tape, i did the labeling, but can i write backups right to the tape ?

for pbs to handle cleaning tapes correclty their barcode must begin with 'CLN'

ok, but what do you mean here? you can sync datastores onto tapes.

Hardcoded CLN names it's unfair, between me and the library thousand miles, i can't change the barcode.

I dont' want to use some datastores which will be synced with tape library. I want to write straight onto the tapes. Any chance to do so with PBS ?

using barcodes with 'CLN' is normal for cleaning tapes, see e.g. veeam documentation: https://helpcenter.veeam.com/docs/backup/vsphere/tape_barcode_labels.html?ver=110

no that is not possible, you can only sync a datastore to tape
