please see this thread for a set of steps to try to restore the contents and please do provide the requested pveversion -v and if possible the raw mpxar and ppxar files by some secure private method (if it contains sensitive information), so we can investigate further, thanks!

Edit: Can you also share the container config and maybe tell us what services are running within the container.

Thanks for the output of pveversion, please do also download and provide the root.mpxar.didx and root.ppxar.didx.

Both can be downloaded via the PBS Web UI by selecting the respective snapshot in the datastores content tab and clicking the download button next to the archives. Provide these files via a privately shared link to the archives by a e.g. nextcloud instance or something similar.

Further, try if downloading the full container image as tar file works via the PVE File Restore dialog.

Thanks for the advice, the container has the following resources:

Okay, so it is a nextcloud instance with multiple mount points. Since the sum of the mountpoint volume sizes is rather large, i assume the backup snapshot is similar in size and therefore unfeasible to provide the root.ppxar.

Could you nevertheless download and provide the root.mpxar? Thanks!

Please also try executing the following command, adapting it to your PBS settings:
Code:
PBS_LOG=debug /usr/bin/proxmox-backup-client restore ct/1009/2025-05-29T00:00:05Z root.pxar <path-to-restore-point> --repository AN1@pbs@:DATA 2&> restore-debug.txt
with <path-to-restore-point> pointing to a filesystem with enough space to restore (which according to the error output requires a bit more than 700 GiB). You will be asked the password for the user to restore and the log output should contain among others a list of files, the last should point at the file where restore fails. Please post the tail of the generated debug file and provide the output of stat <path-to-file> for the file it fails on executed from within the container and on the same file on the restore point.

Further, try to restore exactly that file and the one after using the PVE File Restore dialog. Does that allow you to restore these files?
