error message: proxmox-backup not correctly installed

Hi,
we have a DELL R740xd server with both PVE (7.1-10) and PBS (2.1-4) installed with Enterprise repository.

It was a fresh install from PVE recent iso, then enabling PVE enterprise repo and PBS non-enterprise repo. Finally today we disabled PBS non-enterprise repo, then enabled the enterprise ones and performed the update/upgrade.

When we check in Administration->"Package versions" in PBS web GUI we get the error "proxmox-backup: not correctly installed".
The full log is:

There shouldn't be if you haven't added a third party repository.
Could you provide the output of apt update and try running apt -f install?

Was it a problem related to switching repository?

An update the post.

I had the same problem on a fresh install of the latest releases of PBS and PVE, both enterprise repos.

The procedure was:

• Install Proxmox VE, fresh install from latest .iso
• Switch repository to PVE enterprise repo
• Install PBS with community repo
• Switch repository to PBS enterprise repo.

apt install --reinstall proxmox-backup actually worked.

Is there a problem switching PBS repository?

Hi,
this is just a cosmetic issue, because the proxmox-backup package is just a meta-package depending on the Proxmox kernel (among others) and is not actually required to run PBS. When you only install proxmox-backup-server, the proxmox-backup package is actually not installed.

The documentation mentions the difference between installing proxmox-backup-server and installing proxmox-backup in the section for installing on top of Debian. When installing on top of Proxmox VE, you already have the Proxmox kernel, so there's even less difference.
