Hi so I wanted to install proxmox backup server on my backup machine.

my backup machine is a dell r520.
I use idrac to load and install the software, but with no luck.
from idrac i use virtual media to attach the latest proxmox iso (3.4).
in the lifecycle controller i set any other operation system, manual installation and bios as boot.

upon rebooting the installation boots, but doesn't matter if i select console or with ui, i get the same error.

can Somebody help me, or point out what else i can try todo?

kind regards

I can tell you that PBS definitely runs on an R520.

Things you want to check ...
- It's tough to patch a Gen12 now. No more online downloads of the full patch disk. Make sure BIOS (can patch to 2.7.0 from iDRAC) and Lifecycle Controller firmware (patch to 2.65.65.65 from within the OS) are up to date.
- Your disk controller. Are you using ZFS? If so, is it set to HBA mode? Or if you can't do HBA, do you have single-disk-raid0 setup to pass the disks through? Have you designated a boot disk for the controller?

When you first load the installer window, there are low-rez text installer options. Try those.

It's rare, but occasionally somebody will pop up with a bad checksum on a download and weird errors during install.
That SquashFS bit ... that's the compressed filesystem they use on LiveCDs and such. If that's throwing errors, it doesn't say good things.

I'd re-download the ISO and try again.

oke thanks, let me try those options, currently i'm switching from a plain ubuntu that was used as backup from veeam, as he transfer from veeam to proxmox and using pbs, i am not using hba or zfs, just the default raid controller, i have a raid 5 4 disk for my backup data, and indeed 1 ssd as raid0 for my boot drive. let me try the rest and keep posted.

I still have got the same problem. :(.

my bios version was already 2.9.0, i upgraded lifecycle controller to version 2.65.65.65 as mentioned.
just to be sure i redownloaded proxmox 3.4 using the download (not torrent) and attached it using virtual media.
same step in os deployment, rebooted, tried, using ui same problem.

even tough it is failed, i do have a shell prompt, because it is able to mount it, if i know which scripts to execute i might be able to install it via console?

These squashfs things are storage errors. If you are still seeing that, I'd look at disk stuff.

You could try going really simple with your disks.
Boot into F2 setup or Ctrl+R raid controller.
Check the health of every physical disk. There should be SMART info there.
Kill your raid config.
Build a new 2 disk mirror.

See if you can install on that new mirror.

personally i would say that ist is kinda weird for the installation of pbs, however due to the read block error i figured it could be my old ssd,
The ssd was still readable on my pc, but smart couldn't read it event tough the raid controller still said the state as online. so eventually i bought a new ssd a chinese patriot 120GB works on my windows machine, dell detects it and can create a vd out of it, but yes the orange light keeps flinkering with a pdr1001 state, which on google stated something about smart, maybe i should buy a sasmung disk instead and retry if that could help the issue.

oke never mind sort of same error, if i boot via usb it does load ramdisk and goes into installation i type necessary information , but at the install it does stop again at squashfs, while i try with idrac directly i get the same error. :(

those errors indicate that the installation medium is corrupt - either the ISO file itself, or how you are providing it to the server..

thanks for the info, well since the last time i had the errors i redownloaded the iso, using idrac i provide it via virtual media and directy attach it, and try to install proxmox via idrac itself, so i assume if this will give an error it should be the iso.

as for the usb i installed it using rufus with mbr, but i discoered yesterday on the docs that i need to use dd mode, which i'm still gonna try if that fixes the issue. at least the installation got further and the samsun ssd gives me a green led on the server which is a good thing.
