hallo world,

i'm using server IBM system x3530 M4 and installing proxmox v 2.1
i want to enable eth1 in my IBM system.

i have tried add script in /etc/network/interfaces

"iface inet eth1 manual"

and then reboot the script is gone, at boot show message eth1 device does not exist.

when i check at BIOS of IBM all the ethernet was enable.

any solution??

just configure the network via GUI, is quite self-explaining.

go to your node/network and you should see an eth1 without config - double click to edit.

editing /etc/network/interfaces directly is only needed in special cases.

thanks for respon tom,

btw on my GUI my network eth1 is not displayed, i have tried boot IBM x3530 M4 with Centos 6 Live CD on network setting not display too.
I suspect there are other settings in IBM system.

Setiam3, I have the same problem. I use the same server. Did you get solve?

Thanks

We were an IBM shop for 20+ years up until the last year, but we have quite a few x3300 M4's and x3650 M4's out in the feild. The x3300 M4's have 4 onboard NIC's but only 2 are active out of the box, the other two actually require a FOD (Feature on Demand) key to activate.

Here is the link

Per the link.

Network interfaces Up to four integrated Gigabit Ethernet 1000BASE-T RJ-45 ports with the onboard Intel I350-CM2 controller (two ports are enabled, and an additional two ports require the optional software FoD upgrade to enable them).

One of the many reasons we ran away from IBM as fast as we could.

adamb,

In my case (and I believe it is the same case of the setiam3), only one nic is enabled.

Not sure why I didn't catch that.

Check out "/etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules" and see if there is an entry for eth1.

adamb,

Following contents of the file "70-persistent-net.rules".

Code:
# This file was automatically generated by the /lib/udev/write_net_rules
# program, run by the persistent-net-generator.rules rules file.
#
# You can modify it, as long as you keep each rule on a single
# line, and change only the value of the NAME= key.

# PCI device 0x8086:/sys/devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:1c.4/0000:07:00.0 (igb)
SUBSYSTEM=="net", ACTION=="add", DRIVERS=="?*", ATTR{address}=="40:f2:e9:69:64:00", ATTR{dev_id}=="0x0", ATTR{type}=="1", KERNEL=="eth*", NAME="eth0"

There is no entry for eth1.

Hi all
I know the post is pretty old but I can't found the right working solution anywhere, so I decide to write it here:

The X3300M4 have 4 NIC onboard : 2 are enabled by default and 2 are enabled with FoD (additional license)

According to this document (pag 12) the default configuration say that the first NIC is for "Production" and the second one is dedicated to IMM2
You must enter in the BIOS and change the IMM2 settings from dedicated to shared
After you modify this settings you'll have the first NIC for IMM and Production and the second one for Production

Debian (and Proxmox settings) now showing 2 indipendent working ethernet card

my 2cents
