Do I need VPN for remote sync?

Hello, first off really happy to hear about PBS and long awaited new features. Question regarding offsite sync. Is communication during remote sync encrypted or do I need site to site VPN setup ? Would it possible to get more details about how traffic gets encrypted?

No VPN needed, TLS encrypted.

the whole backup runs over the api on port 8007, which is always using tls

Thanks for info.This mean i can backup over WAN connection and backup traffic is protected?Also this means i can port forward 8007 port over NAT mapping for sync/backup jobs.Still miss few features like sync cron schedule and sync direction choose.
