The Dell R640 spec sheet lists Ubuntu 16.04 support so I figured debian and proxmox likely had support already as well, but not yet.
Looks like I bought hardware that is a bit too new, my bad.
Based on this bug report it looks like the driver for this raid controller went in to the 4.11 kernel.

I was looking around on the wiki for ways to respin a proxmox iso, or make a modified proxmox kernel and wasnt having any luck.
Any suggestions on getting an installer iso that supports kernel 4.11 or newer? beta?
Tips for getting extra drivers loaded at install time somehow?
