[SOLVED] Debian VM Cloud-Init Networking Issue

I've had a Debian 12 VM stop responding to network requests completely. I'm unable to SSH in or SFTP into the machine due to refused connection and the SMB share has also stopped working. The console in the proxmox web interface is working as per normal, however it doesn't autologin like my linux containers do.

I have attempted to change the VM's IP using the Cloud-Init tab and it hasn't had any effect after image regeneration and reboots of the VM. I have also run "cloud-init clean" and reboot to no avail.

May I ask did your Debian 12's cloud-init ready image is download from https://cdimage.debian.org/images/cloud/ ? I recent use that image and create an Debian 12 VM did not encountered the same problem as you said! could you tell how you create the VM within Proxmox VE?

I utilized https://community-scripts.github.io/ProxmoxVE/scripts?id=debian-vm for the VM install.

It was originally working fine for a while however at some point it stopped responding to network changes via cloud-init.

Is there a way I can manually switch the IP or repair / reinstall cloud-init?

I attempted to add an additional network adapter via proxmox GUI and then set its IP in the cloud-init tab. The adapter added fine but appears to have ignored the cloud init IP completely and used DHCP to assign itself an address.

I have come to the realization the networking configuration must be completely cooked on the VM. I transferred the virtual disk to another VM to recover files and created a new VM with the https://cdimage.debian.org/images/cloud/ image and had no issues from there.
