[SOLVED] Debian 9 guest VM install failing

Please elaborate more on your failed install. So far, I only can see, some script can't be executed.

  • Which PVE version are you using?
  • LXC or KVM machine?
  • What container/iso image are you using?
  • What network hardware have you set in your lxc/kvm config?

I tested a install with the debian 9.1 netinst iso and could not reproduce the same behavior. Please check your iso.

apologies, that seemed to fix it in dev on our no-sub box but the problem remains on the Prod sub machine including the script failing and the flashing screen. Very odd, I've been running no-sub boxes for a good while now and never seen this.

Does it also happen with a debian 9.0 netinstall iso? The VMs can access the internet from your production servers?

The Ubuntu kernel is different from a Debian's. If also the Ubuntu VM is stuck with network issues, then it looks more like a general network issue. Did this happen before? If not, what has changed since then?

This is a fresh proxmox 5 install, I made the IPv6 change I mentioned above but that's it.

I'll do a clean install again

it's in a DMZ behind a pfsense on a 192.168.3.x subnet

Can I confirm that on install the gateway and DNS are 3.1?

On a fresh install, you will find the vmbr0 bridge to have the IP address, netmask and gateway set (from your input on the installer). In the resolv.conf the nameserver and domain you provided will be set.

Thanks for the update John, would you mind adding "[SOLVED] " in the front your thread subject name? That way everyone knows there was a solution. Thanks ;)
