Hello,
I have just installed Promox 2 on a new dedicated server on top of a clean Debian Squeeze.

The proper kernel is running (Linux hn2.dondaniello.com 2.6.32-6-pve #1 SMP Mon Dec 19 10:15:23 CET 2011 x86_64 GNU/Linux), all packages are installed.

The problem is that VMs don't work, while VCs do.

root@hn2:~# qm start 201Could not access KVM kernel module: No such file or directory
failed to initialize KVM: No such file or directory
No accelerator found!
start failed: command '/usr/bin/kvm -id 201 -chardev 'socket,id=monitor,path=/var/run/qemu-server/201.mon,server,nowait' -mon 'chardev=monitor,mode=readline' -vnc unix:/var/run/qemu-server/201.vnc,x509,password -pidfile /var/run/qemu-server/201.pid -daemonize -usbdevice tablet -name 178.33.53.12 -smp 'sockets=4,cores=1' -nodefaults -boot 'menu=on' -vga std -tdf -localtime -rtc-td-hack -k pl -drive 'file=/var/lib/vz/template/iso/WindowsServer2008R2_SP1_EN_x64.iso,if=none,id=drive-ide2,media=cdrom,aio=native' -device 'ide-cd,bus=ide.1,unit=0,drive=drive-ide2,id=device-ide2,bootindex=200' -drive 'file=/var/lib/vz/images/201/vm-201-disk-1.qcow2,if=none,id=drive-ide0,aio=native' -device 'ide-hd,bus=ide.0,unit=0,drive=drive-ide0,id=device-ide0,bootindex=100' -m 4096 -netdev 'type=tap,id=net0,ifname=tap201i0,script=/var/lib/qemu-server/pve-bridge' -device 'rtl8139,mac=02:00:00:5B:F8:04,netdev=net0,bus=pci.0,addr=0x12,bootindex=300' -cpuunits 1000' failed: exit code 1

This is the output from command line, ofc in the GUI it's the same.

Why does it complain about missing modules when I installed every package from the instructions?

I had a similar problem and it was because the Intel virtualization technology was not enabled in the server's BIOS. I found this because of these error messages:

Could not access KVM kernel module: No such file or directory
failed to initialize KVM: No such file or directory
TASK ERROR: start failed: command '/usr/bin/kvm -id 100 -chardev ',......

Re: Could not access KVM kernel module: No such file or directory (same here)

I just ran into this on one of my boxes. It had been in production for years, and suddenly stopped working after upgrading to the latest proxmox.

Turns out the CPU battery died and apparently the BIOS reset at some point during rebooting and disabled the Intel VT extensions.

I am having a similar error, how did you fix the vt extensions or otherwise enable the intel kernel
