I'm going crazy. I've tried two different physical devices, I can't get my proxmox instance to recognize my coral usb.

I even tried a AC powered usb hub. Any guidance!?

root@proxmox:~# lsusb
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 05e3:0626 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub
Bus 001 Device 007: ID 046d:c339 Logitech, Inc. PRO Gaming Keyboard
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 05e3:0610 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 004: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 1462:7e06 Micro Star International MYSTIC LIGHT
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 8087:0033 Intel Corp. AX211 Bluetooth
Bus 001 Device 006: ID 05e3:0608 Genesys Logic, Inc. Hub
Bus 001 Device 009: ID 222a:0001 ILI Technology Corp. Multi-Touch Screen
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

dmesg shows nothing as I plug and unplug it. I've tried every port on my machine, and every other device works.....

Things possibly to check:

  • Have you tried those Coral's on a different PC (any OS)?
  • You have quite a bit of (heavy?) USB activity/connectivity already connected - maybe try removing some of the other devices - I'd start with that touchscreen, RGB lighting controller etc. Then try seeing if the Coral gets recognized upon insertion. I've seen on various HW's USB interference from one device to another.
  • Fully shut off the device (power-cord removal, not just shutdown) of the server - before attempting to get the USB device recognized, I've seen many USB buses that get locked up (& shorted!) in crazy ways after connecting different devices.

Note: I have no personal experience with the Coral USB.

you need to manual install driver and reboot host, lsusb must return google inc. I am using it with frigate without issues

My understanding is that it needs to show up using lsusb before installing drivers, but as Global XX (or similar). I've done that driver install anyway and rebooted numerous times. Did yours show up as soon as you plugged it in? Its like the machine doesn't recognize it in any way. Its crazy.

I've tried bullet 2 a few times, did it again with bullet 3 as well. Unplugged it for 30 minutes:

root@proxmox:~# lsusb

I'll try both in another device and report back. I tried the first one in a windows machine and a mac and it wouldn't show, but haven't tried the 2nd one.

My windows machine doesn't recognize either device. I ordered a 3rd from another seller on Amazon, guess I will see if these two are just dead.....

Just another thought that comes to mind: I had a look at an Amazon offering for the Google Coral USB here, & notice that it uses (& comes included) a detachable USB C to A cable. Have you tried using a different cable (data + power & preferably short & thick). Cables are often the source of much heartache.

BTW, I'd be interested to know how much you pay/paid for these Coral USBs as this may be an indicator of their "quality".

I tried several other cables, including both cables they came with. I spent $80+ on each, and the third was priced the same.

Bought with Prime, and sellers with lots of feedback.

Third one plugged in and the light immediately turned on the back. It now shows up! Insane that I had not one, but two bad units!

It is possible that vendor sent you units that were previously returned to him - thinking that maybe with a different customer they will work!

Anyway happy you got it (one!) working.

Maybe mark this thread as Solved. At the top of the thread, choose the Edit thread button, then from the (no prefix) dropdown choose Solved.
