Console suddenly no longer showing VE names (only numbers) ?

Hello,

My PVE Server Console suddenly lost all VE names, showing only numbers, regardless of which view (Server or Folder).

Everything looked ok, I went and had supper, and when I came back, the VE names were no longer shown in the list of VEs, only numbers.

If I click on a specific VE, I can still see the name in the Summary/Status box.

What went wrong, and how do I fix it?

I am running version 2.2-24.

my bet is you are running a cluster and if you log in and check your cluster status you will notice that the machine in question is no longer connected,
look at the command pvecm,

fixes to this ( after you have checked connectivity to the other cluster machines)
restart either
the box
or
service pve-cluster stop
service clvm stop
service clvm start
service pve-cluster start

Normally /etc/init.d/pvestatd restart suffice.

It's actually a standalone server, not a cluster. I will try restarting, but I would also like to know what causes this so it can be avoided in future.

The version of proxmox you are running has a bug in pvestatd which result in memory leak leading to what you have seen. An update to latest version will fix your problem.

Thank you. That helps, and restarting pvestatd helped. (actuallly it had died, apparently).

Hello, I was about to post with a similar issue-- all VMs are black rectangles with no status, even though they're running. I checked, and noticed pvestatd was not running. I started it, and everything looks great.
Why is it not running? I noticed this to be the case for both of my 2.2 instances, but not for my 2.0 instances.
If the bugged pvestatd is crashing, can I update that single piece without causing problems?

restart the pvestatd.

service pvestatd restart
