Bad surprise, my password app does not mention console password anymore...
I suppose we can't retrieve it or override from the proxmox gui.
I also suppose i have to reinstall proxmox :)

How can i backup the proxmox settings and actual vm to restore them later on ?

Hi,
if you save your config and data (therefor you must mount the proxmox-partitions) you can also set a new password - this is normal linux doing (has nothing to do with proxmox).
If you lost with this - hire an linux supporter.

Hi,
It sounds like it's impossible to achieve which i completely don't understand. For example, why not backup the vm to an iscsi target or an nfs share ?
Then why it would be impossible from proxmox gui to backup its own settings ? Except that the feature may be not implemented, it would be mysterious to me why the feature can't be implemented as a software saving its own settings is a common feature not requiring something special from the hosting os.
Then how to restore the backuped data ? i don't see any proxmox menu to do that

Hi,
how do you want to do backups with the gui, if you loss the password?? Normaly you can't login!
If you can reach the gui, you know the root-password (except somebody do a hack at the pve-system)!
And to save the config with the console is very basic linux doing. Otherwise you can easily configure a fresh system...

Edit: restore is allways handwork. See "man qmrestore"

I don't understand :) I can login to proxmox gui as i have the password. I can't login on linux, that what i call the console
Oh, you seem to tell that the proxmox password and linux password are the same, that's right ? I was hoping that but when i use root / proxmox password, login is incorrect.
Ah restore function is under work for the next release :), i better understand now why i didn't see the capabilty in 1.7 :)

Ok you're right about the password, they are the same, i used the numeric pad for the password which were a bad idea apparently, problem resolved, thanks.
So no way to see restore capabilities in the gui one day ?

Hi,
fine that you able to login!
About restore and gui: i'm not sure if this is planned in a future version because i don't have a focus of that (i have no problem with the console).
At the roadmap http://pve.proxmox.com/wiki/Roadmap i can't see anything for this topic.
