Hello,

We want to upgrade our 6 nodes from pve 7 to pve 8. The documentation says "Check that all nodes are up and running on the latest package versions. If not, continue the upgrade on the next node, start over at #Preconditions".

Okay, we understand that a cluster can work with pve 7 and pve 8 simultaneously, but not totally (?)...
What can be the impact of taking time to upgrade ours nodes and having some with pve 7 and others with pve 8 ?

Thank you for your help !

Best regards

The main problem you'd run into is likely live migration from newer systems back to older systems. This is generally not supported and may result in crashes or freezes of your VMs.

There may also be new features available on newer nodes that won't work as intended if a VM is migrated back. You also won't be able to see certain features in the GUI of older nodes.

Typically, we'd recommend keeping such an in-between stage as short as possible. There is not much testing going on with mixed cluster setups like this to make any real guarantees about stability or bugs that may exist.

Thank you very much for your reactivity. We will try to manage to not migrate from newer systems to older.

Best regards
