When I change the name of vmbr0 to vlan2 (or other names) the GUI shows the vmbr0 as inactive with no autostart and the vlan2 as inactive with autostart even though I've completely removed vmbr0 from /etc/network/interfaces I would like to have (relatively) arbitrary names for bridges, but it appears that this may not work? Any ideas?

We indentify bridges by naming convention, so you can't use arbitrary names.
