Hello everyone,

beside the I guess main function of backing up Proxmox VMs is it also planned to have PBS being a centralized backup server like Bacula where you can install a client on a physical machine and back up stuff via a local installed client?

Or would that be out of scope - at least for the moment?

Hi,

While the integration into Proxmox VE for VMs and Containers is first-class we still use the standard Proxmox Backup Server client and libraries for that, which can also be used on other hosts.

Bacula where you can install a client on a physical machine and back up stuff via a local installed client?
See https://pbs.proxmox.com/docs/backup-client.html

For now, we provide packages for recent Debian derivates, like all plain Debian Buster, Ubuntu 20.04 and similar distros, see the
Proxmox Backup Client-only Repository section in the docs. An RPM build is on the roadmap, and there exists an Arch Linux user repo package maintained by me and another dev.

Thanks for clarification!
I am looking forward to any new development as I have a Windows 10 computer which I would like to backup as soon as there is a working solution.

Just FYI: Windows is a bit further down the roadmap, as its filesystem(s) architecture behave very different from the one from the *nix (Linux, BSD, ...) worlds, not impossible but surely a lot of work to get a fully native and first-class integration.

Hi Thomas,

sure - it make sense to have Linux covered earlier then MS file systems.
If you need a beta tester for any development just contact me - I am using NTFS & ReFS on my system.
