Hii,

Currently i am facing some password issues on my proxmox (installed on Debian) server. I am not able to change (save) the root password of containers. Please check the output of command i am running on h/w node.

root@debian:/var/lib/vz/template/cache# vzctl set 100 --userpasswd root:test --save
No changes in CT configuration, not saving

Hope to get an update on my post so that i can fix this issue.

use:

Code:
vzctl set 100 --userpasswd root:test

I have also tried the above command but when i login to container through SSH, it is giving me access denied. I tried to change the password by entering into VPS through H/W node ( using vzctl enter command) but still not able to login.

works here.

so if SSH does not work on your side, this is probably a ssh configuration issue.?

might be outdated but you can access the ovz from the proxmox shell by using

vzlist to show the running ct
vzctl enter ctid without any need of a password
and change the password inside by using passwd root

However I just spotted that something must be broken because creating new CT using the gui and a password this password doe not get into the VZ. I have to login manually and change the root password.
This definitely worked a few weeks ago so maybe a new feature (bug).

pveversion
pve-manager/3.1-24/060bd5a6 (running kernel: 2.6.32-26-pve)

Ok I need to apologize and correct myself. its my Chrome and my lastpass.
it somehow messes with the root password in the proxmox gui.
I tried with firefox without lastpass and all worked fine. then disabled lastpass in chrome and see it works and takes the password.
