Can't install PBU because of firmware

Hi,

I am trying to install Proxmox Backup Server on my Server, but I keep getting this error message:

Things I have tried to solve this:
  • Verified ISO is not corrupted
  • Made sure that the USB is working (it can install Ubuntu without Problems)
  • Connect the SSD to my PC and install PBU from there
All of this did not help, and I keep getting the same error message.

Can you help me with that?

Well ... this comes up every now and then. Usually folks get frustrated before we figure it out.
  • I see you've already tried the low-rez installer. Ya, that's smart. And it doesn't work. Righto.
  • You need to check that UEFI vs BIOS is correct all the way through. Don't be set one way and try installing the other.

What software did you use to write this USB with?

There are two that have good record of success, Rufus and UNetbootin. (***DO NOT USE UNetbootin.)
Unfortunately, its been long enough that I forget which one I favored.
I use Anyburn, which is less well known.

You want to look for settings like "RAW" and "Linux compatible".

The Server I'm trying to install on is pretty old (~2015) and that's something it ought of too. I have taken a look in the BIOS menu but didn't find any Settings that would appear wrong. Also, like I said: Ubuntu installs without a problem. That also should not work if the BIOS settings would be wrong, right?

I use Fedora with Gnome on my PC and I just go to the Disks app, select my drive and click on Restore from Backup. From there, you can select a ISO to write to the drive. Has always worked so far. Including my other PVEs.
 
Alright, I don't think you are getting this.
You actually can do this wrong. And it sounds like you may have.
There's directions here about how to RAW write the ISO.

You don't have to use the ISO. You can install Debian and then install PBS on that.
"Proxmox Backup is split into a server and client part. The server part can either be installed with a graphical installer or on top of Debian from the provided package repository."

You are the very first person to actually listen to me and resolve this issue as instructed.
(Its a weird problem, so people don't get it. We all know how to burn a USB, and who wants to hear from some rando on a forum about how to do something so common?)
