Hello,

I have a Problem when writing to a LTO-8 drive using PBS with standard HDDs.
Due to disk setup i've choosen, I end up writing with about 80MB/sec to tape which results in lots of write/rewind. (not quite healthy for tape)

My question is: Is there a posibility to cache the content of the size of a tape on SSD before writing to tape so the tape could be writen in a (more or less) single write process?

Thanks in advance,

Stefan

No, currently not. The system is designed for SSDs.

A Backup System depending on the use of SSDs?
Really?

We utilize about 300TB as Backup Storage. Using SSDs would be financially "challenging".

I didn't read that in the documentation…

Conclusion: We buy a subscription, start a feature request and hope for the best. That’s cheaper than building a 300TB SSD Storage. ;-)
Until then, we build a second PBS with SSDs and sync the first datastore which has to be written on tape, backup on tape an then delete the Content to sync the next datastore. Or is there an easyer way?

Kind regards,

Stefan
