"Blank" shell in 8.2.2 with Firefox

Hello, I just installed Proxmox on a N6005 box, and starting a shell from my Ubuntu 22.04 Firefox browser results in a completely blank (black) screen, with only the flashing cursor visible. Typing simply appears to move the cursor, although the command is there and executed if I press enter (I ran the post-install script, which also showed up as blank up to the point until I typed a "y" and an enter, after which it showed me the usual questions). Highlighting the text will sometimes (but not always) reveal some (but not all) symbols in the prompt as white text against the grey highlight backdrop. This install I used the ZFS option on the single SSD I am using, but I also installed on the same hardware previously using the default ext4 option and the shell worked fine. Not sure if that has anything to do with it, but only change I can think of.

Does anyone happen to know what might be causing this? I will try a different browser when I get the chance, but was hoping there's a fix. Please let me know if more information is needed.

Same thing here (Firefox 126 on Ubuntu 24.04). Obviously some change in the way Firefox works since this was working previously.

Tried a few different video options in Proxmox and none fixed the problem. Also tried turning off "Enhanced Tracking Protection" in Firefox and uBlock Origin off for the proxmox page but didn't change anything.

Using a different browser (for me Brave) did fix this but would love to figure out how to fix this in Firefox.

It happens to me too. Firefox 128 both on Ubuntu 20.04 and Pop OS 22.04. PVE 7.14-16. It doesn't happn with different browsers like Brave

I just started seeing this behavior.

PVE 8.2.7
Firefox 130.0.1

Choosing 'spice' from the drop-dowm menu works, but not novnc or xterm.

Brave-browser 1.70.119 works. All terminal options work as they should.

Version 131.0 works fine here, and also all previous versions of Firefox (but I can't be sure I've used 130.0).
Does it work in a New Private Windows? What plug-ins and extentions do you have installed? Some have been known to break Proxmox before.

Same behavior in private window and with extesions disabled. I have a vm of my workstation and that one work fines. Must be some kind of issue on my workstation.

Hi all,
I've had the same behaviour for a while (Firefox 128.3.1esr) and I've just noticed today that if I zoom in on the browser tab, the text starts to be visible at 150%... It looks like the text is there but outside the visible frame, I don't know what to do next but I hope this will give some of you a clue.

Seems I'm having the same issue. In the pop-up windows I need to zoom in to 200% before the text shows up, and in the proxmox ui about 160% zoom for it to show up.

Did you ever find how to fix it?

Nope, no news. I'm using another browser for Proxmox as I also have keyboard problems under noVNC with Firefox.

Happens to me too. PVE 8.3.2 and FF 134.0. Also had this issue in prior PVE and FF versions.

WORKAROUND: In firefox go to about:config and turn "gfx.canvas.accelerated" to false. This will fix the issue.

I'm running linux mint with an nvidia card and nvidia driver installed. May be why this is a difficult one to track down.

Your workaround helped me! I also have a NVIDIA driver

For me the issue appears to have been an addon, which enforced higher strictness in the privacy settings of Firefox. Disabling the addon and thereafter lowering the "Browser Privacy" to "Strict" resolved the issue.

This has worked for me. I am using Win11 with an AMD card, specifically I am using a Framework 16. (PVE 8.3.0, FF 138.0.4)
