Best way to move VMs to new hardware (new local storage)

Soon I'm going to be moving all my VMs from one node to new hardware. The existing local storage is LVM-thin, all VM disks are qcow.
The new hardware is going to be all new SSDs in a ZFS array.
I have a dedicated PBS node that has current backups of all my VMs and the host.

After some research, I've found a couple options that others have done (but not nessesarily with the same configurations):

1. Setup new node next to old, add the new node as part of a cluster with the old one, and migrate the vms over (idk about differing local storage though, or vm ids?)
2. Setup new node in place of old, connect to PBS and restore everything from there (does this retain all VM metadata settings, cpu, mem, mac addr, ect?)
3. Other option I'm not considering?

What would be the best way to transfer the VMs to the new hardware and storage with as little human intervention as possible?

Jup, but not all the firewall rules. Aliases, IP sets and security groups are part of the datacenter firewall rules. So don't forget to backup your "/etc" folder too.
