beginner - keyboard special characters

hi,
i'm a novice in linux and proxmox, excuse me for the question.
The server with proxmox works great and so all vm's (Windows). I can send all keys i want in the console and with rdp.
My problem is with the linux shell: i'm unable to send the left and right square brackets and others chars. I'm trying to configure SAMBA and editing the configuration i can't type the brackets. I searched and i found problems with the console and the keyboard, nothing about the shell. I access it remotely using the proxmox interface.

A solution?

Hi,
do you have select the right keyboard layout?
Datacenter -> Options -> Keyboard Layout

Does the same happens, if you use ssh (putty?) to login to the host?

yes, the keyboard is correctly set to 'italian' as mine kb.
when i connect 192.168.1.100:8006 connection automatically switch to https. I'm not sure you asked me this, What's putty?

found a solution: ESC+ESC+093
not confortable but works.
