Hi all,

first, happy new year all.

I have a problem, if i backup a vm of openvz with command: vzdump --suspend 4163 and i upload it on proxmox server and start restore with command: vzrestore filename.tar 103

i get in console following errors:
- udev requires hotplug support, not startet... failed
- fast boot enabled... warning
- startpar: service(s) returned failture: udev... failed

And the restored vm does start very very slow.
What can i do to fix this errors and to start vm in normal speed? Please help. Thery thanks.

regards

Containers does not support module loading. I assume this happens also on the original container, so this is not related to vzdump/vzrestore.

Hi dietmar,

thanks for your answer. I have backup the dump in a system with openvz and owp. How can i migrate a dump/vm ov openvz server with owp to proxmox? We would migrate all our vms in proxmox. I hope, you can help me. Very thanks.

Hi dietmar,

i have test it on openvz servers. if i restore a openvz dump on a other openvz server with ovz, i can restore the vm and can start it fast.
In proxmox i get this error messages and the machine is starting slow.
Can you help me please to find a solution to fix this problem.
I hope soooo...

Very thanks.

Hm, ok,

but do you have a idea or a information, how can i fix this problem, well we get this error on all openvz dumps whitch we would migrate/restore in proxmox. we would migrate all our machines in proxmox, but can start first, if the first machine was restored successfully. I hope, you have a Information to fix this issue. Very thanks.

Hi, we have test it with a original openvz template. We get the same error in proxmox.

You can use this link/tempalte for test it self: http://download.openvz.org/template/precreated/debian-6.0-x86_64.tar.gz

You will get the same error...

If i use openvz direct i can use this original template without errors.

Can you check it please again? Well we don´t have any ideas to fix it in proxmox!

Very thanks for support.

you cannot load modules in a container. if a templates tries to do this, you will get these errors/warnings. if you want worry free templates, use our Debian templates.

Hi dietmar,

whitch init log you mean, the init log of openvz or proxmox vm?

If you say, we must use proxmox templates, how we can migrate openvz machines to proxmox?

regards

original openvz template - init log in proxmox:
init-log.png

vm is halt on the last line... no connecting over ssh available...

hi tom, new machines we are creating with your tempalts, but the problem is to migrate original openvz machines in proxmox. this doesn´t work. we can´t install more than 700 openvz machines new and migrate files only.
we would migrate all our openvz machines in proxmox completly, but at this moment we can´t migrate it. only with the posted error. we don´t have a solution to migrate the openvz machines in proxmox. dietmar said it´s works fine, but we can´t migrate. i hope, you can help us to find a solution to migrate our many openvz machines in proxmox.

very thanks

if you cannot figure it out I suggest you take a look on our commercial offerings. our team can take a deeper look on your existing containers.

Hi tom,

thansk for this information and offer, but we have test it on a other server of a other person. The same error comes. It´s also not a configuration problem. Proxmox can´t import original templates of openvz. We hope, you repruduce this error and find a solution, well we would use your software for many servers in our datacenter. if dietmar said it´s works and all tests of more servers say it´s doesn´t work, we dont´t buy a support ticket, well it´s support which a wrong answer. I think, you can test it self on a virtal machine and get the same error. This is a project of view minutes to show, thats an error of proxmox migrate configurration or compatibility problem in this version.

please test it and give us a information about your tests. very very thanks .

=> we would test it tomorrow on a 3rd intel modular server and send you informations - ok!

regards

Please remember everytime your point your finger at others 3 fingers is pointing at yourself!
Because you are not able to solve your own problems does not automatically imply errors in proxmox and require others to work free of charge solving your problems especially since you seem to be a massive commercial user of proxmox buying a support ticket should be peanuts for you. Please remember Open Source does not mean support free of charge and as long as you yourself charge others for your service how can you the expect service free of charge from others?

Hi dietmar and tom,

we must say very sorry, your information was correct. we have installed today proxmox on a complete fresh intel modular server and migrate a openvz image. we get the same error. we have log the output of start in openvz and get the same error on this machine. very sorry to you...

do you have a idea, how we can fix this issue to remove the warning on startup with udev?

a other question we have found on this test, if we migrate a openvz image with a clamav service, this service do need a very long time to start on boot of openvt vm. do you have a idea to fix it?

i hope you can understand us and help us to fix the issu and especially sorry for misunderstanding...

regards

OpenVZ is not full virtualization. You have no kernel in the container so you cannot load modules, etc. this is no error as already pointed. a template must be configured to know this, otherwise you will get an error (but no issue).

All OpenVZ templates from http://wiki.openvz.org/Download/template/precreated works on Proxmox VE.

But again, all this works on other places, migration, clamav, etc. So you need to figure out why your container does not work. Either you do it by your own or you ask someone else, e.g. our support.

you got all hints already, so it looks like we are on a dead end here.
