Backingup of VM client with multiple hard drives in multiple LVM storage

We have Proxmov 2.3 and we are trying to backup a VM client that has multiple drives which are residing in different storage (e.g. VM 101 has 2 hard disks - one in network storage 32GB and another in a local LVM 40GB).

The problem we encountered is that when we do a backup for this VM, the resulting backup lzo file is only 2MB in size. When we did a restore of the backup, it only restored one of the hard disks (the 32GB from the network storage).

How can we create a backup of the entire VM that has multiple drives? And how can we restore a VM with multiple drives to it's individual storage locations?

That work out of the box (unless you exclude a drive explicitly by setting backup=no).

You can restore to the original storage if you run qmrestore on the console without specifying a target storage.

You were right. The 40GB hard disk was set to backup=no. Unchecking this resulted in a complete backup of both hard disks.

Now, our issue is with the restore. We can restore the backup but it will restore all the hard disks to the same storage target. Unlike in the original configuration where each hard disk is located in a different storage. Is there a way to do this?

I understand what you mean in your first answer but what we want to do is to restore the backup in another proxmox machine with different storage names. I've read the qmrestore man file and I don't see any option to do what we want to do. Any suggestions? Thanks again!

this should work on current pves, just select the backup in you storage and in the restore dialog choose your target storage
