Hello i know this Question has been asked thousands of times And I'm next to ask sense I'm not a programmer. My skills are in hardware, I'm trying please bare with me.

So my question is i do have a file server i used for a lot of my backups Is it possible to backup my VM once per hour to my backup file server?

The specs of my back up file server is a 6 core with 16Gb of memory and 72TB of hard drive space. So space is not a problem.

My other question is there a painless or a easy howto guide i can do this?

Joseph

P.s.s I have only 4 VM one for each of my 2 brothers who use a vm. And i use one VM for my self, The forth VM is for my pfsense.

Hi, assuming you're backing up from PVE, these backup jobs are just cron jobs [1]. If you create a backup job in pve, you can then edit the file /etc/pve/vzdump.crom and add hourly backups by changing the interval to 0 * * * *

Yes, unfortunately, backup jobs in PVE weren't really created with more flexibility in mind, so in terms of PVE, the choice is currently between updating the cron job and losing it on the GUI, or being limited to daily snapshots. I would probably select the cron job, as it's not so difficult to manage (in my opinion). As @Hannes Laimer said, I would also recommend installing Proxmox Backup Server [1] if you want such regular backups, as it offers a lot of features in regard to storage efficiency.

Hello all thank you all for the sponse back. Sorry for the long delay. We had a couple deaths in our family from all this human melware going on. Plus now I just got laid off of my work of 23 years which makes it even harder trying to go out for work. Only work out there is now fastfoods which i do not want to do again. I haven't done sense my teens. But it looks like i might have to do and have no choice. I will pick this project back up soon for the backups. I just don't know when.
