My goals with this system are to have a VM of windows server running blue Iris for 4 cams. The other goal of the server is to serve as a backup of my Linux home server currently running on Ubuntu 18.04 headless with docker containers for Plex, radar, sonar, transmission, etc. I would also love to be able to access this remotely. I have not read into PFsense and I would also be interested in a VPN for the server.

I had planned on running esxi or proxmox for this and having two VMs for what I have described. I also hoped to be able to serve those Plex files locally for my parents, as this server will be at their home.

I plan on having 4 8TB in ZFS raidz2 same as I have on the current home server for Plex. I planned on having the windows VM with two mirrored 4tb purple with recordings on motion control.

Any tips or help would be appreciated, I am certainly not a professional! I have limited networking experience and may need to find someone local to smooth out the rough edges of this build.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi!

I am sure that you can do this with Proxmox VE. You can find some experiences about Proxmox VE together with the services you listed, for example here our forum, another thread in our forum or in places like reddit. The most valuable resource for your plans could be our reference documentation. It contains, for example, details on how you can set up networking.

To begin with, you can install Proxmox VE in a VM (Nested Virtualization).
