Are SMR Drives acceptable as (no ZFS) Storage on Proxmox Backup?

I have several 8TB seagate backup drives which were purchased both before the SMR news in the drive world, as well as prior to my knowledge of SMR drives.

As I am about to install a proxmox backup server at my home cluster, I wanted to confirm if SMR drives would work as storage.

Putting this another way:
how much random IO should I expect from a 3 node cluster writing to a proxmox backup server?
Can this be reduced by carefully scheduling backups, or does the deduplication service present an issue on SMR drives?

I tried searching the forum, but "smr" returns zero results in this sub-forum...

they probably won't work very well, but AFAIK we don't have any in our testlab to verify this assumption.
