Are Portmap/ Portsentry needed for normal operation on the host OS?

Hi,

We do regular security scan's of our system and recently the scans of been detecting portmap (port 111) and portsentry as a possible security problem. If they are not needed i'd like to shut them down, but i'm not 100% sure if they are needed for normal operation.

I'm also interested in this question, i would like to close port 111.

I guess you only need that port if you plan to use clustering, but I'm not really sure. Let's see if some admin/guru give us any answer.

i'm not absolutly sure, but AFAIK you need portmap for nfs.
