Hi,

What is the difference of PVE installed from 7.1.2 ISO updated to 7.2.3 or PVE 7.2.1 ISO updated to 7.2.3 ?
Identical hardware, identical configs, same patch level, same vm.

I installed a fresh PVE host from the 7.2.1 ISO (04.May 2022), applied all updates to 7.2.3 until today (11.May 2022).
Restored a before working macOS vm and it can't see the passthrough GPU.

(After days and nights of trying every setting found on the internet and the moon, reinstalling PVE several times ...)

Today installed a fresh PVE host from the 7.1.2 ISO (07.December 2021), applied all updates to 7.2.3 until today.
Restored the same macOS vm and the passthrough GPU works like before.

Sound strange or I just forget a config or whatever, but I checked it twice. Erased the ssd installed PVE from 7.2.1 and updates, no passthrough.
Erased the ssd installed from 7.1.2 and updates, passthrough fine.
So installed PVE today 5 times just to make sure.

Any ideas or clues ?

Thanks,

Karsten

Several people are having issues with passthrough with kernel version 5.15 (PVE 7.2 and known issues), while it worked fine with (and works fine when reverting to) kernel version 5.13 (PVE 7.1). Your situations appear to match this but I am unable to locate the relevant threads of the past week.
EDIT: Found one of the threads. Your could try running PVE 7.2 but installing and booting pve-kernel-5.13 temporarily.

Works fine with the newer kernel 5.15, as long it's updated from 7.1.2.
Tthat's really surprising to me: it does not work when you start from 7.2 (and update to the current version) but it does work when you start from 7.1 and update to the current version?! Reading more carefully, that's exactly what you wrote. Sorry for misunderstanding your report. Maybe someone smarter than me can explain this.
