I have a AMD Phenom(tm) 9650 Quad-Core Processor running VMWare and promox as a virtual machine. Proxmox is running very well. However, I only have the option to install an Openvz container and not a KVM. Does this CPU support KVM?

Hi,
of course the cpu support hw-virtualisation - but your vmware steal the virtualisation.
Proxmox is designed to run directly on the hardware like vmware.

Thanks for the response. However, in the demo videos, proxmox is running in vmware and allows for KVM? Is this not accurate?

I understand that some people feel the need to do this, but double hardware virtualization is just a bad idea on many many levels. OS Virtualization works just fine under hardware virt, but hardware virt+hardware virt is a really bad idea.

May I ask why you would want to run KVM on top of VMware, as opposed to just running VMware or KVM? You will not get much usable performance doing both simultaneously. If you have a desktop and want to utilize hardware virt, I would suggest running apps side by side like Virtualbox and VMware native, but not nested.

no, the demo videos does show KVM inside VMware as this is not possible - there is just the bare-metal installation demonstrated on VMware Workstation. all other videos are showing real hardware.
