Hi guys,
Excellent product .I just wanted to know whether we can add external storage. For example I have installed Proxmox in IBM blade server and the the harddisk size is just150GB .And configuration in 32 GB RAM 8x3.2Ghz.We where first planning to install Vmware ESX server and I convinced them to go with Proxmox. Now the issue is that I want all my virtual machines to be stored in san.And I also want to whether we can change the storage location.for example right now all our vm are getting stored in /var/lib/vz to /data.

Once again great product keep the good work going

See roadmap - we just finished the move to Lenny and the next step is the flexible storage which you need here. I hope we got the first results in one or two months from now, hopefully.

In the meantime you can use local storage (or do a custom configuration).

I suppose by "do a custom configuration" you mean go into the installed Proxmox server, add your storage, and then mount it where PVE expects to find its local storage?

I suppose if all VMs are stored in /var/lib/vz, and you had a separate hard disk or partition for the purpose of storing the VMs, you could just mount that disk or partition as /var/lib/vz instead of as /data -- having first mounted it somewhere else and copied the original contents of /var/lib/vz to it.

In a similar fashion another disk or disk partition could be mounted on the directory where the KVM VMs are stored, and bingo: more disk space.

Should that work?

Actually just tried this and it works. You have to also unmount the device mounted on /var/lib/vz by default after copying the data to your external disk.

And make sure you stop all the VMs before copying and changing the mounts or you will run into some snags.

Excellent..!! i am testing proxmox out and needed to test this type of setup out...

i use ESX 3 currently... and have a ZFS storage server setup for the Vm's.. i want to use the ZFS storage for the proxmox Vm's aswell...

i have to agree... this is a great product from what i am seeing so far.. adding the capability to add external storage sources in the web management interface would be a GREAT addition and would bring it closer to ESX in it configuration capabilities (GUI wise)... by no means is not having this a deal breaker since it seems this can be done at the console.. but for the admins who may not be comfertable in the command line, it would certainly help...
