Hello folks,

my company/department is getting a new server (in about 2-3 months) including Adaptec 8885 RAID controller + cbm and decided to try out Proxmox. Now my question is - will Proxmox VE 3.2/3.3 and the maxView Storage Manager work with series 8? We still have the chance to change the controller but we need one with at least 8 internal and 2 (the more the better) external SAS ports.

Thanks for help guys

Kind Regards
ekin

Edit: OK, I just found the maxView SM compability list for version v1.06.21062 (from Aug 04) and the 8885 is listed there. https://www.adaptec.com/de-de/speed/raid/storage_manager/msm_linux_x64_v1_06_21062_tgz.htm
But will the newest version work on Proxmox?

Ok thanks. But what does that mean? Do I have to build that driver myself till it gets integrated by you?

we plan to integrate the latest adaptec driver in the default kernel. that means, it will just work.

Hi tom

A question about of your web link:
https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/show_bug.cgi?id=550
That tell us about a driver for few Adaptec RAID card in a web link within of the same:
Code:
[B]Compatible Products[/B]
Adaptec RAID 7805
Adaptec RAID 7805Q
Adaptec RAID 78165
Adaptec RAID 71605E
Adaptec RAID 71605
Adaptec RAID 71605Q
Adaptec RAID 71685
Adaptec RAID 72405
Adaptec RAID 8405
Adaptec RAID 8805
Adaptec RAID 8885
Adaptec RAID 8885Q
Adaptec RAID 81605ZQ

But in this other web link of Adaptec:
http://www.adaptec.com/en-us/speed/raid/aac/linux/aacraid-linux-src-1_2_1-40300_tgz.htm
Adaptec tells us about a driver that has all the models of adapters that you mentioned above and many more:
Code:
[B]Compatible Products[/B]
Adaptec RAID 6405
Adaptec RAID 6405E
Adaptec RAID 6405T
Adaptec RAID 6445
Adaptec RAID 6805
Adaptec RAID 6805E
Adaptec RAID 6805Q
Adaptec RAID 6805T
Adaptec RAID 6805TQ
Adaptec RAID 7805
Adaptec RAID 7805Q
Adaptec RAID 78165
Adaptec RAID 71605E
Adaptec RAID 71605
Adaptec RAID 71605Q
Adaptec RAID 71685
Adaptec RAID 72405
Adaptec RAID 8805
Adaptec RAID 8885
Adaptec RAID 8885Q
Adaptec RAID 81605ZQ

The question is whether it would not it better to use this latter driver that I mention above?

Best regards
Cesar

These are two different lists. One for the latest adaptec driver, the other for the maxView software!

Update:
Just saw that the old driver had a longer list of devices, as you wrote. Maybe that's just adaptec's fault not listing all devices (or the older devices are EOLed and thus are not listed anymore).

Excuse me XueSheng, but the link to bugzilla.proxmox.com have other link that is this "https://www.adaptec.com/de-de/speed/raid/aac/linux/aacraid-linux-src-1_2_1-40700_tgz.htm", and aacraid is a driver of Adaptec, and it isn't a extra tool.

Adaptec has EOLed the older 6405 and 6805 controllers (at least according to their homepage). That must be the reason why they don't list them for new driver releases. I first read the wrong link, that's why I've updated my last post. Sorry for that.

@ekin06:
You don't have to wait for the next proxmox update. According to adaptec the controller 8885 was already supported with the previous driver and maxView.

I see in that link that the 6405 and 6805 aren't in EOL list, and the 6405T, 6805TQ and 6805Q them if they are on EOL list.
