Hi

I have my proxmox host setup with an IPv6 address on vmbr0 bridged to my eth0. I can ping this IPv6 address from the internet and I can get out from the host via IPv6.

I want to access the proxmox host web interface via this IPv6 address but am having no luck. There is just no response from the 8006 port. Firewall enabled or disabled doesn't change it.

Syntax I have been using https://[2607:5300:XX:XX::1]:8006

The above works fine with my IPv4 address. Anyone able to suggest what I am doing wrong?

Any questions, I'm happy to answer!

Thanks
Brendan

See this post.

(Also make sure your browser has ipv6 enabled. For some reason they often don't...)

Thanks for the reply wbumiller

Following your post in the other thread. I want my host to be available from both IPv4 and IPv6 at this stage, so I tried to set the precedence entry higher (I understand IPv6 is higher by default anyway?) but couldn't get that to work.

Should I expect to see both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses in my /etc/hosts file?

If I change the IPv4 address currently in /etc/hosts to my IPv6 one I assume I will loose all connectivity via IPv4. Hence my hesitation to change until I can prove it will work..

I have been using an online IPv6 port scanner to check the 8006 port open on that address to prove it will work remotely. I assume this should work?

Thanks
Brendan

You also have to `systemctl restart pveproxy` after doing any such changes. The precedence is only used if both addresses are available. So you probably want both IPv4 and IPv6 entries in /etc/hosts. The contents of /etc/hosts doens't usually affect your network connectivity though. Only a couple of services if they behave like pveproxy.

Thanks, adding my IPv6 address to my /etc/hosts file has achieved what I was after. I can now see the 8006 port open on my IPv6 address remotely.

However I am having an issue logging in from this address because the "Realm" field is empty on the front login page and I cannot select either of the default realms I have setup.

Any suggestions for fixing this? I have tried 3 different browsers, so unsure if it a local or server issue?
