1 drive internal and 1 external. How to provide redundancy?

I'm using an Intel Nuc 12 I5 with 64GB of ram, a single internal NVME 2 TB drive (where Proxmox is installed with ZFS) and a USB-C NVME 2 TB external drive.

In Proxmox I have 1 VM with Proxmox Backup Server which backups some remote CTs/VMs which should totally takes around 300GB of disk space. Then I have another VM with a big NFS share which takes around 1 TB.

I'm not interested in backing up these VMs but I'd like to provide some kind of redundancy in case of disk failure.

Since I'm using an external drive, what's the best way to provide some redundancy? If the both of drives were internals I would go with a RAID1 but since 1 is internal and 1 external... what should I do?
