    Old, old openvz conversion

Hello, I have old openvz ve's (base os centos 5 and 6 - don't ask). What is the best way to move these to lxc (or anything else you recommend). They are located on a server running openvz (not proxmox). Is there a way to transfer the (/vz/private/ve_number) and conver to lxc? Thanks in advance.

    find ip of kvm server

It is my understanding that virsh, etc. do not work with proxmox but instead one should only use the qm tools. Is there a way with qm or other tools to learn the IP of a kvm server on my proxmox node? Thanks!

Virtual Machine with local directory storage?

on lxc it seems all containers share the same load average, dmesg, etc. I have found a way to lock out dmesg but still not ideal (now there is just no dmesg at all for containers). I need full separation for my containers. Let me know if I'm missing something to make lxc more isolated. I'm not...

    no container will start

Thanks for the reply. I'm not using zfs though. Very good idea though as full disks can indeed cause all sorts of problems. I've checked and all disks look good.

    no container will start

After many days of both containers and vm's running fine, I suddenly cannot start any containers (vm's still start). Fails from both command line and gui with : Failed to start pve-container@126.service: Connection timed out See system logs and 'systemctl status pve-container@126.service' for...

Virtual Machine with local directory storage?

I'm coming from an openvz background (pre-ploop) where all files were in /vz/private/VEID. All my hosts and containers/VMs are Linux. The advantages for me are : - easily copy files in and out of container. - mass update containers (outside of a normal package) - if security required a...

Virtual Machine with local directory storage?

Is it possible to create (and/or convert) a virtual machine (kvm) that uses a local directory instead of disk image such as qcow2, etc.? For containers I can do : -rootfs /vz/private/$VEID,size=20G Thanks!

    Proxmox start / restart command?

Sorry, I thought I was being a "good" forum member by NOT starting a new thread for which an existing very similiar thread existed. The most logical subject for my new thread will be "Proxmox start / restart command?" which is the same title as this thread. I specifically made sure I searched...

    LXC privilege level?

Has this changed any? My lxc instances can read dmesg from the host and also clear dmesg. I need to have lxc such that a compromised lxc cannot clear dmesg on the host. Any ideas?

Set IP for VM before guest OS install (network install)

Is it correct that ProxMox does not supply/act as a DHCP server? I mistakenly thought it did. I have not DHCP server on my network so my only option is to tell kvm to set a particular IP when starting this vm up. Is there any option to do this inside of proxmox? I looked into cloud-init but to...

Set IP for VM before guest OS install (network install)

I have a VM for which I'm doing a network-based install. I need the VM to have an IP address at boot up. Currently it appears the guest OS is using DHCP (supplied to promox I assume?) to get an IP. Is there a way to specify/force a particular IP for DHCP to give out. I have a few public IP's...

containers whose filesystem is a directory on the host

Thanks for your help - I appreciate it! I'm trying to break my old openvz habits :) In general are the raw, cow, etc. filesystems "better". Do I need to worry that corruption to the .raw file would break the whole filesystem? I feel a bit more comfortable with directory based storage because I...

containers whose filesystem is a directory on the host

I made a few containers by hand using -rootf : pct create 100 local:vztmpl/centos-8-default_20191016_amd64.tar.xz -rootfs /vz/private/100 (I'm used to using openvz). I was surprised this worked as from what I can tell the GUI only allows .raw filesystems. I have a few questions : 1. What is...
