Never mind. I went to bed and woke up this morning to find the Backup completed (and the old backup I deleted properly deleted). The backups are also properly listed in the GUI. Took almost 2 hours and 30 mins for the backup to complete.
I guess I just need to be more patient with Snapshot...
I've got a server with Proxmox Virtual Environment 6.4-15 installed. I've got several VMs installed on it. I've also got a 10TB External Backup Drive that I manually back up my VMs to. I should also mention that I've only used up about 7% of my Proxmox Disk Space and 11% of my External Backup...
OK, I think I fixed the problem!
I took a look at the /root/empty-ram-backup.sh script. Here were its initial contents:
#!/bin/bash
it { "$1" == "backup-start" ]; then
echo 1 > proc/sys/vm/drop_caches
fi
Clearly the Syntax is incorrect. Never touched this file until now, so no idea...
Hello Proxmox Community,
So I bought this External Drive (10 TB) for my Dell PowerEdge R710 Server running Proxmox as the Host OS. I've been following this video tutorial to properly partition and setup the 10TB External Drive for backups. The setup was easy (it's set to ext4) and Proxmox GUI...
I called WD last night ... and they were telling me they couldn't confirm whether any WD Elements Desktop Hard Drives (WDBWLG0060HBK-NESN) I buy would include a CMR or SMR. REALLY frustrating.
I'll check with Seagate tonight, but I suspect I'll be getting the same thing from them.
If I can't...
No, I don't think we need a lot, although it probably would be a good idea to get something bigger like a 6TB.
Are all the WD Elements Desktop Hard Drives (WDBWLG0060HBK-NESN) CMRs? Even if they're 4TB or 6TB?
Are all the Seagate Backup Plus Hub Desktop External Hard Drive (STEL10000400) CMRs...
Oh ... I didn't know about SMR vs CMR. So, from what I gather: CMR writes faster than SMR, both both read equally quickly?
Is there a "plug and play" CMR Drive you can recommend Dunuin? I do not have physical access to the Server needed an External Drive to backup to: I need something that the...
Thank you for the reply Dunuin :)
So a wse-bin%3A5446816011&rnid=1248877011&s=pc&sr=1-4&ts_id=595048']WD 4TB Elements Portable External HDD should do? It's not a very big Server, and I only suspect I'll need to backup at any one time 1.5 TB. I also plan to host Backups on a Backblaze B2 Cloud I...
I have a Dell PowerEdge R710 Server with Proxmox 6.4-13 installed as the Main OS. I got 4 VMs running it, one of which is an Nginx VM.

Enterprise Repository? I don't have a Proxmox Subscription, but why is this relevant?
You know something ... 5.4.128-1 was the initial version of Proxmox I installed. I definitely remember upgrading to the latest version of 6 though by performing the following:
# pve5to6
# apt update
# apt...
So just a couple hours ago, my Proxmox Server was working fine. I am in the middle of a move right now, and had to move my Dell Server hosting Proxmox, so I move it to a new location (along with my Router). Turned everything back on, and ...
I can't access the Proxmox Web GUI whatsoever. Here...
Thank you for answering @Dunuin, but there's a couple problems with this suggestion:
1. I am basically living in a Residence Inn temporarily until I can find a new place (long story), so I have no place to keep a dedicated-running Proxmox Backup Server.
2. More importantly, the Dell PowerEdge...
Recently I set up a Dell PowerEdge R710 Server hosting Proxmox and shipped it to a friend to house and run: I simply didn't have the space (and am moving) so preferred he hosted it instead of myself.
However, he's not the most Linux-minded and we still need a method to backup to Server. So I...
I have great news: someone on Reddit helped me resolve the issue!
Ran the following in Proxmox to re-create the Volume Group:
lvcreate -L11G -n vm-100-disk-0 pve
(Nginx VM is 11G in disk size and pve is the Volume Group)
Nginx now had a Hard Drive, and I was able to restore the Nginx VM to a...
I have an Nginx VM that will not start. It was working yesterday. When I try to start it, I receive:
VM is locked (rollback)
When I unlock the VM with qm unlock 100, and try to start it with qm start 100, I receive the following:
kvm: -drive...
Alright, so NOW the Proxmox Web Interface comes up! Here is what I've done, and I don't know if it's a longterm solution:
wget http://download.proxmox.com/debian/pve/dists/stretch/pve-no-subscription/binary-amd64/libpve-access-control_5.1-12_amd64.deb
dpkg -i...
This issue has come up in a couple threads around here and this seemed to be a workable solution:
https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/roles-cant-be-edited-after-cluster-reinstall-on-debian.49128/post-229665
Tried this myself, but I still can't login through the Proxmox Web Interface.
