@Master of the Wind
did you read my comment? i said like XCP-ng
XCP-ng/xenserver allow you to create VM from template aka base image and allow to modify the CPU, memory, disk size and many more
cloudinit to also manage all other stuffs
it is not a clone, that is what am talking about
am not...
this might have been one of reasons why i went with xenserver/XCP-ng in the past
am not sure when proxmox will understand what a template should be
a template should work like an AMI works
you create an EC2 from an AMI
You dont clone an EC2 from an AMI
just not sure if that is rocket science...
I have searched youtube for videos on creatin g VM templates in proxmox and to my surprise they are all junks. To be expected especially all these homelabbers that are just trying stuffs out. Even a middle schooler can start youtube channel as homelabber nowadays making videos like a go to...
I know xenserver and XCP-ng support live migration of VMs from one host to another without downtime
Does proxmox support this also? Any links to the docs about this feature?
i see that now, thanks
do you know if proxmox can be used to replace pfsense entirely for BGP with BYOIP?
i have a thread i created here about it https://forum.proxmox.com/threads/can-i-use-proxmox-sdn-to-replace-pfsense-for-bgp-setup-with-byoip.153157/
My plan was to create a VM to use for pfsense to setup BGP with BYOIP with my hosting ISP provider.
Can proxmox do this and replace pfsense entirely?
Anyone tried this yet?
I am trying to get a single dedicated server and also want to setup pfsense to do routing and BGP with my own ipv6 only for now and ASN
Now like i mentioned this is a single dedicated server with a hosting provider that is whiling to setup BGP session and announce my ip with my own ASN
How do i...
ESXi does not have lots of write operations to the OS drive after install?
What about xenserver? is that a legitimate option to install on sd card also?
yeah issue was i only have 2 x 2.5 SSD for this server, and wanted to have those 2 available for VM storage and put OS on the sd card
they recommend installing hypervisor on these sd card even for enterprise customers, so why cant they make these sd cards to be longer lasting for write...
On a newly installed proxmox server i have the following
# df -h
Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
udev 32G 0 32G 0% /dev
tmpfs 6.3G 1.4M 6.3G 1% /run
/dev/mapper/pve-root...
Yeah i thought as much...yup agree that most systems will use memory to cache and almost always will use all except if not doing anything at all. The deduplication, where do i read up on proxmox's implementation and how to use?
I am aware we got thin provisioning for storage with LVM for example out of the way
but curious if there is thin provisioning for memory also, as that is another big one
Issue was i had error in non-debug mode before and then went to modify many things in BIOS and forgot that debug mode does not actually install
I thought debug mode means installation in debug mode???
Just retried and looks good now
thanks and sorry for the false alarm
but still I had to change...
I was able to install XCP-ng on the same server with zero problems, but proxmox always complaining about stuffs
I remembered i decided to not go with proxmox years back because of installation problems also
where it keep asking for too much and tried xenserver then and it was a breeze, now i use...
