Hello,
I just did an online migration of one of or DB Servers.
Underlying storage is CEPH.
That failed *after* migrating:
2024-08-26 09:29:59 migration status: completed
2024-08-26 09:29:59 ERROR: tunnel replied 'ERR: resume failed - VM 1153 qmp command 'query-status' failed - client closed...
My two cents:
Running 2 Clusters on 7.4-18, identical hardware, storage ceph on both;
online migration works (as far as tested), offline migration gives "no export formats for 'Storage".
we are doing offline migration using a pipe: vzdump "$vmid" --compress 0 --mode stop --stdout |ssh...
Hello,
Fearing ransomware attacks, I am searching for a role that allows backups but denies restores or deleting of backups – such a role does not seem to exist.
It would be fine to use:
DatastoreBackup
"Can backup and restore owned backups"
and change the owner to another API token...
Thanks for the reply.I tried to fix the below:
# apt list --upgradable
Listing... Done
proxmox-ve/stable 7.4-1 all [upgradable from: 7.2-1]
pve-kernel-helper/stable 7.3-8 all [upgradable from: 7.2-13]
# apt-get --with-new-pkgs upgrade proxmox-ve pve-kernel-helper

How would i upgrade safely to the proxmox-kernel-helper as i am currently using pve-kernel-helper ?
apt remove pve-kernel-helper && apt install proxmox-kernel-helper ?
I do not like to loose the node...
We have that in two different organizations of our group, server2019 and server 2022 affected, problem also in the newest PVE version.
We think it might have to do with windows fast boot (because a reboot does not fix it but a poweroff / start does).
We are in the task of switching fast boot...
Same here.
Windows server 2019,2022 and win10 VMs show the "spinning icon" (non-spinning here) after the reboot that follows a windows update. Rebooting restores exactly this state. machine must be stopped and will boot fine right after the next start.
we are on a fairly new pve version.
Hi,
We like to run something like:
pveum passwd sru@pve <<passwordhash_here>>
or something like:
thehash="<<hash>>" pveum passwd sru@pve
Is any method supported to provide a password *hash*, not a cleartext password from the cli ?
Reason: we would like to create users via saltstack.
Thanks...
Hi,
we have some proxmox backup servers version 2.2.x with mixed discs:
system discs with SSD/NVME
data discs with sata 16tb drives.
if i try to restore a bigger vm, i always get timeouts from the backup server while searching for the latest backups.
Every first try always ends in a timeout no...
Thank you very much for the suggestion, much appreciated.
We will evaluate such a setup and compare it to a 1st level / 2nd level setup where the 1st level is pure ssd but much smaller and thus holding just a minimum of backups.
hello,
For backup storage, we are using a software raid from 10 hdd, not ssd configured into zfs raidz2-0 using the gui.
We see 160 MBps restore speed in the logs.
As we have some multi-TB Servers to restore, i would like to ask if that can be optimized.

i am answering my question:
#List storages
pvesm status
# find a snapshot in the storage, here a proxmox backup server type
pvesm list prxbk01.womedia.de | grep 3033
# Restore this to a new vmid.
qmrestore 'prxbk01.womedia.de:backup/vm/3033/2022-03-01T10:47:00Z' 313033
Hi,
Sorry but i can not work it out myself.
For monthly restore tests, i like to restore a complete infrastrukture of 10..20 VMs by script.
I am able to restore individual files from the snapshot in question, i.e:
PBS_REPOSITORY='...' \
PBS_PASSWORD='...' \
proxmox-backup-client restore...
Thanks, this has been solved.
For the records:
The web gui was of no value here as it kept spinning while trying to display subscription information.
That blocked all buttons on that form so removing the subscription was not an option.
Instead i executed

Hi, our pbs *has* a subscription until Jan 2022.
in /etc/proxmox-backup is a file "subscription" from May 6th.
- Whats the cause for the message and how to fix it ?
