Ceph reading and writing performance problems, fast reading and slow writing

...flash memory structure is not as good as that of a single hard disk, or even a single mechanical hard disk In using the hdd+ssd structure in bcache, the sequential write performance of ceph is far lower than that of a single hard disk Please forgive my poor English. Test server parameters...

PVE GUI doesn't recognize kernel bcache device?

Hi, please open an entry on our bug tracker for this issue, so it doesn't get lost in the forum: https://bugzilla.proxmox.com/

Bcache in NVMe for 4K and fsync. Are IOPS limited?

Curious where you ended up on this @adriano_da_silva - considering migrating one of my clusters from NVME DB/WAL + Spinners, to bcache NVME+Spinners.. Curious what 6 months of experience had done to your views.

How to setup storage with SSD and HDD

...One with my SSDs and another one with the HDDs. Is there another way to use SSDs and HDDs in one ceph pool, where the SSDs do some kind of caching? I found this documentation about bcache and this Adding caching tier to your filesystem on github. Is itpossible to use it with proxmox? Thank...

    Q: Qcow2 file error Weird Problem > Any comments/thoughts?

...again. So, I think my next step is to schedule maintenance window, take all VM offline, run an FSCK on my proxmox datastore which is on the bcache volume, and see if that comes back clean, or if it gives me any errors/fixes/status hints. I'm still baffled that the qcow reports as 'corrupt...

    Q: Qcow2 file error Weird Problem > Any comments/thoughts?

Hi, are there any IO errors, messages from kvm or similar in your host's /var/log/syslog? I'd also run a memtest and check your disks with e.g. smartctl. Maybe also fsck your bcache file system. Is this the full VM 107 - Start task log?

    Q: Qcow2 file error Weird Problem > Any comments/thoughts?

...Generally it works smoothly (Dell 2u rackmount box, dual-quad xeon, dell-perc hardware raid, pretty standard hardware etc). I do have a bcache volume here which is a bit atypical but generally in my experience bcache has been solid. There was a major storm here over the weekend, and power...

VMs freezing and unreachable when backup server is slow

...a write cache but a "normal" vdev. Meaning, the data stays there and doesn't get flushed to the spinning disks. We need more something like bcache in front of the zfs pool but this introduces a complex setup and i personally think it would make way more sense to implement this caching logic...

PVE GUI doesn't recognize kernel bcache device?

...activate the OSD, it appeared in the list. But one question remains: Is there really a bug in Proxmox, which makes it not recognize the '/dev/bcache0' device provided by the Kernel as a regular storage device? Because the pveceph command did not allow to create the OSD, according to the...

PVE GUI doesn't recognize kernel bcache device?

Hi, Is there a bug in Proxmox that prevents it from correctly seeing bcache devices as a regular storage device? I'm using Proxmox PVE 6.4-14, Linux 5.4.174-2-pve. The bcache is a Linux kernel feature that allows you to use a small fast disk (flash, ssd, nvme, Optane, etc) as "cache" for a...

PVE Ceph- should I use bcache?

Hello, I know this message is old, but please, I need to solve a similar problem. I'm trying to create an OSD using bcache drive. If it works, I intend to use bcache on all OSDs here. But when I try to build, in GUI bcache drives are not available for use. And from the CLI, the following error...

...disk. This is expected and should give the same fast response as the flash device. However, this is not what happens when going through bcache. But when I remove the fsync flag in the test with fio, which tells the application to wait for the write response, the 4K write happens much faster...

Bcache in NVMe for 4K and fsync. Are IOPS limited?

...in benchmark tests, would be to set up an identical configuration for all my ten hyperconverged Ceph nodes, putting the OSD's to run on top of bcache and with DB/Wall on the same NVMe, but on a separate partition . I know there's a risk in putting two or three spinning disks depending on a...

Intel CAS/Open CAS Linux and Proxmox/ceph

No, but I did do a whole bunch of testing with bcache, lvm cache and lvm write cache on a ceph lab setup. Haven't quite got round to writing it up yet and posting... If you do have success getting opencas working would be very happy to add that to the benchmarks.

How to deal with degraded btrfs-arrays?

...(ie systemd from fstab) might not know all the disks required for the mount and some might take a bit longer to appear? Eg. if you're using a bcache layer or mix a hard disk which is there immediately with an LVM disk which only appears after lvm has been initialized... I guess with ZFS...

bcache and LVM storage: Can't delete VM disk

If you are trying out bcache in your VM's and are using LVM storage in Proxmox, you might want to blacklist the bcache module on your host. I use LVM over iSCSI storage for my virtual machines. I was playing around with bcache in a VM. Worked great, until I destroyed the VM: I couldn't delete...
