vm to proxmox leads to dracut

What's odd is that this is a centos 7 vm, similar to others that I've converted/moved to proxmox but for some unknown reason, on boot, it always goes to dracut. On the others, I've simply had to change the SCSI controller, add the network back in and change the OS type and they run right off the...

    Reset Web Password

Hi, For example, I used the same password on all hosts. Then I used one host to join the others so used its password. Is it safe to change the passwords on all of the hosts, make them different of course and then if I want to join another host, I can do the same, just use the password of one or...

    Reset Web Password

One thing I've been nervous about since building my cluster is that I used very simple passwords on each server and used the same password when joining nodes. I'm nervous that changing the host passwords will somehow cause a problem with the cluster.

What kind of maintenance should I do?

So pretty much nothing more than I'm doing as it is. I figured there might be some other things like updating the OS (which I do), updating the qemu guest agent now and then and some other housekeeping tasks for the OS itself. Sounds good, thanks for the input.

What kind of maintenance should I do?

Hi, Yes, there is a plan for recovery. The storage is both local and backed over network storage (SAN). Yes, apps/dbs are auto backed up daily, weekly and monthly. But I was mostly asking about proxmox itself, not so much the general topic of managing resources :). Is there anything specific...

What kind of maintenance should I do?

I'm using proxmox hoping to get used to it and maybe replace all the vmware stuff we're using. I've had a cluster up and running for some time now, months. Everything seems to be just fine but I feel like there is some maintenance I should be doing even if all is working right. Can anyone...

[SOLVED] Does backup server handle esx vms?

I don't think it was in these forums. I seem to recall it was someone's howto that I found. Like I said, it's vague however since it was quite some time back. You mention no official way but does that imply that there might be a way? If so, then maybe I did come across that article and need to...

[SOLVED] Does backup server handle esx vms?

The reason I'm asking is because I was sure I came across a post several months ago that said the backup server could also backup vms on esx hosts. I recently started looking for that but cannot find it anywhere now so I assume no but I thought I should ask here.

Backup is sparse warning but why?

    >I guess you might want to remove the old ID from the configuration then ;) I wasn't aware that this had to be done manually due to a bug. I've not looked at the other nodes but I assume all will have the same entries. >That is unfortunate :/ Non-major upgrades are usually smooth and we try...

Backup is sparse warning but why?

Looking at /etc/pve/jobs.cfg on the first node, I see the list of daily and weekly. I can see at least one vm that is no longer even in the vm inventory, running or non running. I see only one instance of pvescheduler running. As for upgrading, that was a nightmare the last time and I'm...

Backup is sparse warning but why?

I understood you didn't mean that literally but I still needed to better understand your comment :). Anyhow, somehow, it's fixed itself and now backups are working again across the nodes. Could it be something that was 'stuck' for a couple of cycles or something?

Backup is sparse warning but why?

Hi, thanks for your reply. The thing is, I don't have those vms listed above to be backed up and they aren't in the list of backups either. It's as if they are 'stuck' somewhere in the config or something. This morning, I see something odd with the errors. The backups, across the four nodes...

Backup is sparse warning but why?

I got to work this morning to find that all of the backups failed across 4 nodes. I read that 'backup is sparse means something like a VM that takes 100GiB of space, contains 50GiB of zeros and is not unusual, maybe related to thin provisioning. However, looking at the errors, it's not clear why...

[SOLVED] CLI mount removes cluster shares

Oh dang, you're right. I didn't even notice that in my panic :). I'll make a new share point. Thanks for pointing out the obvious.

[SOLVED] CLI mount removes cluster shares

UPDATE: Don't work on servers before you've had coffee :). I'm running a 7.2 cluster. All has been working fine for months and suddenly, I get an error of a backup not completing. I take a look from the CLI and notice that one node in the cluster no longer has its NFS shares. That particular...

Thanks. I'll give that a try and report back.

How to Convert VM from Proxmox to VMware vSphere?

When I used proxmox to convert the vm, I entered both disks into the command as shown above. Do you mean I should have exported the vm and the first disk as one vmdk and the second disk as it's own vmdk?

How to Convert VM from Proxmox to VMware vSphere?

    >Oh course you also need to vmdk disks in VMware. Can you expand on this? The only option I find is to import existing disk/s which vmware seems to do but then won't start. There are no options for 'vmdk' specifically or I missed that looking through all of the possible options.

Cannot export/start dual disk exported vmdk

I'm running 7.2. I exported a dual disk file vm but cannot start it on vmware. After backing it up, I used the following to convert the two disks into a single vmdk. # qemu-img convert -O vmdk -f raw disk-drive-scsi0.raw disk-drive-scsi1.raw c6-voip.vmdk When trying to start it using vsca, I...

How to Convert VM from Proxmox to VMware vSphere?

How do you do this when there are two disk files? disk-drive-scsi0.raw disk-drive-scsi1.raw Like this maybe? qemu-img convert -O vmdk -f raw disk-drive-scsi0.raw disk-drive-scsi1.raw image.vmdk Update: Nope, vmware is not able to use this disk or import it.
