Yes, we use the Proxmox backup scheduler to run our backups overnight (between 2am and 5am) on a daily basis. Proxmox will shutdown the VM and perform a full backup for us.

Thank you for the reply @dietmar . Excellent feature! So the VM temporarily stops...the snapshot is then taken very quickly and when Proxmox has successfully taken the snapshot it starts up the VM again to be used...then the rest of the backup time is the snapshot then saved to the backup...
